Casillas Arrested

Investigators arrested a man wanted for casing and robbing several South Valley businesses. The Tulare County Sheriff’s office says Luis Casillas was not only seen casing businesses before the crimes — but he was also caught on camera during the crime. Casillas was arrested Tuesday morning in Porterville. Investigators say he robbed a recycling business in Earlimart on Saturday afternoon.

Prop 8 Fight Continues

The fight over Proposition 8 isn’t over with yet. Supporters of California’s ban on same-sex marriage want a federal appeals court to reconsider a recent ruling that found Proposition 8 to be unconstitutional. A three-judge panel of the Ninth U.S. District Court of Appeals made that ruling earlier this month. The Protect Marriage Coalition filed court papers before yesterday’s deadline urging the case to be reheard by a panel of eleven judges.

Reward Offerted in Fore Bombings in Coalinga

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is offering a 100-thousand-dollar reward for information leading to an arrest in a series of fire bombs at a local feed company. Fourteen trucks at Harris Ranch in Coalinga were set on fire, causing more than two-million dollars in damage. Sheriff’s officials say the bombs were placed under the tractor-trailers on the morning of January 8th. They say whoever’s responsible poses a risk to the community because of the hazardous materials used to make the devices.

New Ag Labor Laws

Many in agricultural industries here and across the country are worried about a U.S. Department of Labor proposal to amend federal child labor in agriculture regulations to substantially limit what minors can do working on farms not owned by their parents.
That includes banning children younger than 16 years old from driving tractors unless they’re undergoing operator-training programs and anyone younger than 18 years old wouldn’t be allowed to work at feed lots, grain bins and stockyards.

Suiceide Pact

The investigation into two suspicious deaths reported earlier this week on Yokohl Valley Drive has turned up shocking details. The sheriff’s office said the two people found dead after a vehicle fire was put out were part of an apparent murder-suicide pact. A released statement didn’t address what caused the vehicle fire. The sheriff’s office said the two deceased people were an elderly couple from the Springville area. The investigation revealed the couple had deteriorating health issues, sheriff’s office said.
