For more than two decades, veterans from across Tulare County have honored their deceased brethren buried at the Visalia District Cemetery with American flags. This year, Avenue of the Flags Veterans Association will put out 1,903 casket flags along the cemetery’s streets Monday, and on Saturday smaller flags will be placed on the graves of more than 3,000 veterans buried there. More 100 of those are being added this year, after a list with the names of Civil War soldiers buried there was discovered.
A pathology report said Kern County Deputies aren’t responsible for the death of a man earlier this month. Three deputies are under scrutiny for supposedly beating a man to death earlier this month but it turns out that’s not how he died. Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood says David Sal Silva died as a result of hypertensive heart disease and had meth and alcohol in his system..
A magnitude 5.7 earthquake rattled a lot of nerves in Northern California. The USGS says the quake was centered in Greenville, which is near Lake Almanor. It struck at 8:47 p.m. Pacific time and was followed by nearly two dozen aftershocks. The epicenter is about 40 miles from Lassen Peak, which is an active volcano that hasn’t erupted since 1915.
Officials are unveiling how much it’ll cost for those who enroll in the state’s new healthcare exchange this fall. The prices vary by region and by a person’s income level. Thirteen health plans were selected, including Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Health Net and Kaiser Permanente. An estimated two-point-six million Californians will be eligible to receive federal financial help with premiums.
